On-Going All Level Gentle Yoga with Jeanne Thornton, RYT, MSW

Release the stresses of your day through the practice of gentle, meditative Kripalu yoga. This class is appropriate for all levels, including Beginners, and is available as a package offer or drop-in. Wear comfortable clothing and eat only lightly before class. Yoga mats provided. Integrative Medicine: Combining Traditional and Alternative Therapies for Better Health

According to a recent survey, approximately 38 percent of adults use some form of complementary or alternative medicine-integrative therapies such as acupuncture, massage, meditation, Ayurveda and herbs.  How can this increasingly utilized whole-person approach to wellness help you take control of your health?  Using the common ailment of inflammation as a case study, experts from Progressive Health Center (PHC) interactively explore how various integrative disciplines lead to healing.

Class 1:  Integrative Medicine with Dr. Allison Archard.  What is it and why is it gaining attention?  How are therapies chosen?

Class 2:  Ayurveda with Karen Quinn.  How does this ancient science bring balance to modern patients?   What are Vata, Pitta, Kapha?

Class 3:  Chinese Medicine with David Armstrong.  How do evaluations, diagnoses and treatments differ?  What is the organ-emotion correlation?

Class 4:  PHC CEO Sue Goodin join instructors for a student-driven interactive discussion.  Identify the health issue of your choice-sleep, stress, back pain, acid refux, headaches, etc.-and learn how integrative treatment compares with traditional.  Leave with a greater understanding of the benefits of combining conventional and alternative therapies for improved health and wellness.

Abrams is an cancer and integrative medicine specialist at the UCSF Osher Center for Integrative Medicine at Mount Zion.  Abrams provides integrative medicine consultations for cancer patients and has completed research in complementary and alternative therapies including mind-body treatments, botanical therapies, medical use of marijuana and traditional Chinese medicien herbal therapies.  Dr. Abrams is also author of the book "Integrative Oncology" along with numerous articles and studies.
